So many people tell me that they can’t be vegan. They can’t give up meat. I’ve got to tell you, I use to feel the same way. In fact, I use to say I was a “meatatarian!” I mean, I was the person who’d go in a steakhouse and order a steak and nothing. Or in a seafood restaurant a pound of crawfish, hold the sides. Seriously. And now I’m a vegan. What happened?
Well, I met some livestock. See me and the alpaca? Aren’t they adorable? Kind-of stinky, since they don’t bathe on the daily, but too cute.
And then there was Facebook. I kept seeing pictures and stories on Facebook that broke my heart. Picture of cows and pigs. I read about Esther the Wonder Pig. She was sold as a miniature pig and just kept growing and is smart as a whip. So, I decided to become a pescatarian. Yes, I was still holding out. But then I found
out that lobsters and crab are boiled alive and they suffer pain. And finally, I noticed that my energy got stronger as I quit eating anything that was once alive and possibly sentient. I now say that I don’t eat anything that can eat me. LOL. But really, what if they can feel? I read somewhere that cows cry at the slaughter house. Let that sink in for a minute.
People once thought that people of color had no feelings. We know that to be a lie. Nazi’s thought that Jews were subhuman. We know that to be a lie. What if animals are like us, just without the ability to talk? What if we someday discover that we have been harming another us?
I don’t know, but I know we are destroying our world and being vegan helps our world. What if we could save the planet by not eating meat? Would you be willing to give up meat to save your children and children’s children?
